A Journey That Changed Everything
Looking back, I don’t think I found the rug business, It found me. My journey certainly didn’t begin the way it does for many in this industry. There wasn’t a family business waiting for me. There wasn’t a warehouse filled with rugs or generations of knowledge to inherit.
Instead, there was simply a willingness to work. Shortly after graduating from high school, I began cleaning carpets and upholstery in people’s homes. At the time, I thought I was simply learning a trade.
Only years later did I realize I was learning something far more important. I was learning about people. Every family lived differently. Every home had its own personality. Every room reflected the lives unfolding within it. Those early experiences shaped the way I would approach every client who welcomed me into their home. They also
led me into sales, management, and eventually the privilege of becoming a buyer, where I developed relationships with some of the most respected importers in our industry. Those men and women shared more than knowledge.
They shared their integrity, philosophy, and appreciation for
craftsmanship. Most importantly, they introduced me to the remarkable people whose hands create the rugs we so often admire. That journey eventually led me to Nepal.

Visiting Nepal Changed the Way I See Every Rug
Nothing I had experienced prepared me for what I was about to discover. When I first arrived in Nepal, I expected to learn how great rugs were made. Instead, I learned why they matter. I walked through weaving studios where conversations were quiet, hands moved with remarkable confidence, and every knot was tied with extraordinary patience.
What struck me first wasn’t the craftsmanship. It was the people. Their smiles. Their laughter. The sense of pride they carried in their work. It didn’t feel like they were simply making rugs. I realized that every rug carries something invisible within it. Not just the finest Himalayan wool, the beautiful colors, the timeless designs and the patience of the weaver but the discipline of the craft and the quiet dignity of the people who made it. The friendships I formed there continue through phone calls, emails, and conversations that keep me connected to the people and traditions that first inspired me.
Those relationships remind me that every rug I bring into someone’s home represents more than exceptional craftsmanship, the hands, the hearts, and the heritage of the people who created it. That is what I hope every client feels long before a rug ever touches the floor of their home. Although my first visit to Nepal has ended, I have never truly left those moments behind.

The Quiet Luxury of Belonging
Over the years, I’ve come to believe that the finest made-to-order rugs have very little to do with drawing attention. In many ways, it’s just the opposite. Some of the most beautiful rooms I’ve ever had the privilege to work in don’t announce themselves. They don’t overwhelm the eye or compete for attention. Instead, they invite you to relax. To linger. To feel at home.
That’s the kind of room I hope to help create. People sometimes ask if there are limits to what can be designed. The answer is simple. Very few. With today’s techniques and the extraordinary talents of the master weavers I work alongside, almost anything can be created, but just because something can be done doesn’t always mean it should be. I’ve never believed that the purpose of a rug is to become the loudest voice in the room. Its purpose is to bring harmony to everything around it.
Sometimes that means a graceful pattern inspired by the architecture of your home, a quiet texture that changes beautifully as the light moves across the room, a palette of colors so subtle they seem as though they’ve always belonged together.
Those are often the details that stay with us the longest. When we create a made-to-order rug together, every decision has a purpose. Not to impress Not to follow a trend. But to create something true and honest, that reflects your home, your lifestyle, and the life you live within it. The goal has never been to create the most noticeable rug in the room but has always been to create the one that feels as though it has always belonged there.

A Rug Begins With a Conversation
By the time I arrive at your home, I hope you already know a little about my story. Now I’d like to learn yours. Before a single rug is unrolled, we simply sit down and talk. I want to hear your ideas. Your vision for the room. The way your family lives within it. What you enjoy. What you hope to change. Most importantly, I want to understand how you want the room to feel. Every home has its own personality. Every family creates its own traditions. There is no catalog that can tell me those things. Only you can. As we walk through your home together, I begin to observe and to understand.
Perhaps it’s the graceful curve of a wrought-iron staircase, or the warmth of the natural woodwork and proportions of the architecture. The morning light that fills a room, or the quiet corner where everyone seems to gather without thinking about it. Those details tell a story. They reveal what already belongs in your home and the inspiration for everything that follows. Only then do we begin exploring rugs. Sometimes the perfect rug is already waiting among the samples of my collections I’ve brought with me. Other times, our conversation points us in a different direction. Together, we create a made-to-order rug that reflects your home, your lifestyle, and the life you live within it. We talk about size, texture, color, and the mood you want the room to convey. When the project calls for something truly unique, I create detailed renderings and, when necessary, carefully measured templates that become the blueprint for the master weavers. Every detail is thoughtfully considered so the finished rug feels as though it was always meant to be there. One of my favorite moments comes later when I place the rendering in front of you.
Suddenly, you begin to recognize your own home in the design. The curves echo your staircase. The colors reflect the light in your room. The borders complement the architecture you’ve lived with and loved for years. The design no longer belongs to me, It belongs to you. That’s when something changes. You realize we’re not simply selecting a rug, we're creating something together. People sometimes ask what makes the RugGuy Galleriez experience different. The answer is surprisingly simple. I don’t begin with rugs. I begin with people. Because I’ve learned that when you truly understand the people, the right rug rarely needs to be found. It reveals where it has always belonged.
