MARK READEL, PRESIDENT, RUGGUY GALLERIEZ INC.
"Who is the Rug Guy?"
“People often ask me “What goes into making a rug?” and “How did you ever get into this
business?” With 33+ years of experience behind me, my answers go something like this. .
I equate making a rug to baking a cake. First you have to have an inspiration. Do I make
Chocolate or Carrot cake? [Do I want a rug for the dining room or bedroom?] Then you need the
ingredients. [As well you need the raw materials: wool, silk and other natural fibers] Then you
follow the recipe. [There are specific needs to make a rug including the designing and graphing,
dyeing the fibers and weaving the rug] You’ll need to set the time aside to mix and bake the cake.
[There is a certain amount of time for each step of the process. Collectively they total the timeframe
to make a rug] The cake needs to cool before frosting. [After a rug is done weaving it must be
washed, trimmed, the edges and fringe attended to, packed and shipped] Then you serve it up to
your friends and family and the wide grins of enjoyment make it all worthwhile. [Once the rug
is delivered, the pleasure you experience will last a lifetime . . .]
Having the creativity and know how I carry with me today began when I landed my first job out of
high school cleaning carpets and furniture. This led me into sales and management and eventually
my long-standing career at a showroom in Chicago’s Merchandise Mart. This career change
allowed me to delve deep within to world of rugs and “I was hooked!” My eyes were opened to the
infinite creative possibilities that rugs have to offer. I decided to branch out and establish my own
rug company and in 2002 RugGuy Galleriez Inc was born. I opened my showroom in the fall of
2004 in the Arlington Design Center, but due to overall economic conditions I closed it and began
to re-invent my company to the business it is today. Consulting with the Professional Designers I
have built relationships with over the years is still a large part of my work.
I also attend to each clients needs, and offer an “In Home Presentation” opportunity to review
samples, colors and the process of creating just the right rug for each project.
My speciality is custom engineered stair applications to fit any configuration. Please browse the site
and imagine having a RugGuy rug for your home!”
TESTIMONIALS
“When I first started my Interior Design business six years ago, I visited several rug places to
inquire about how they work with designers. Mark was very friendly and open to my inquiries.
Shortly after that I attended a great seminar hosted by Mark, which taught me about the different
materials in rugs. I have been working exclusively with him ever since. Whether it is a stock item or
a custom rug, he gives you his same expertise and devotion. From the search for the perfect rug,
through the ordering process, finished product and delivery, it is always seamless. My clients & I
always benefit from his knowledge and professionalism.”

“I am so pleased with my recent design project in Glenview where we used two beautiful rugs from
the Rugguy Galleriez, Inc showroom. The vast amount of options available from Rugguy Galleriez,
Inc. allowed me to flex my creativity to achieve the best possible product for my Client. Mark’s
knowledge of the area rugs and best way to include certain styles into a design project is extremely
helpful, so that as Designers we are prepared to offer our Clients the most appropriate rug for their
needs. The added options offered with custom design area rugs is a real plus when I want to create
from scratch a "certain look and colorway" for my Clients. I truly appreciate Mark’s non-intrusive
assistance and follow-up once a rug project is underway. “Mark was wonderful to work with at the
ORI showroom in The Merchandise Mart so I was very happy when he opened Rugguy Galleriez,
Inc. at The Arlington Design Center in 2004 and am thrilled that he is continuing in the rug business
going forward!” “I'm looking forward to working with Mark on my next area rug project. I know I
can count on his dedicated expertise to help me as he always does.”
